All smoke detectors expire, they have a 10 year life span to properly work. After your smoke detector hit 10 years old they need to be replaced with new one. If your not sure how old they are, their is a date printed in the bottom of your detector that shows expiration date.

TESTING

Your smoke detectors should be tested monthly to make sure they are working. Keep in mind that testing does not insure that smoke detector is detecting smoke properly so make sure you check the experation date and replace if needed.

CLEAN

Just like you dust your shelves and wipe down your fan, your smoke detectors need some attention too. Your smoke detectors should be dusted and vacuumed every 6 months to insure they remain in perfect working condition. This also prevents false alarms due to dust particles that could form inside.
